4th August 1953: Sam leaps into Charles Lee Mackenzie, a young US Navy sailor returning home after two years of service in Japan. To Sam’s surprise, he learns that he is also accompanied by his new Japanese wife, Machiko. However, his choice of bride is not appreciated by the townsfolk, his amorous ex-girlfriend, Naomi, or his mother – and unless Sam can convince them to accept Machiko, his new wife will be doomed to return to Japan and die of a broken heart…
